Philips 50PF7521D

It is a bit of a shock to find Philips, a top manufacturer not known for cheap prices, producing a 50 inch Plasma screen for around £1,300 but here it is. A stylish looking screen that doesn't skimp on connections. With duel HDMI and the usual Scart, Composite and S-video the one thing that is missing is a VGA port to hook up your computer to.

Featuring an internal Freeview tuner, very useful once the analogue signal is turned off, and Philips Pixel Plus image processing technology. However be warned, the Pixel Plus used on this screen isn't the latest all singing and all dancing version found on higher end kit but instead a few years old version.

However for £1,300 you can't complain too much about this and performance once this is taken into consideration if very good. Personally we would spend a few hundred quid more and get the Samsung but if you are at the limit of your budget you will be pleased with this choice.
